讲述三个年近四十的老朋友西尔莎（罗伊森·加拉格尔 饰）、罗宾（西妮德·基南 饰）和达拉（基琳·邓恩 饰）的故事。西尔莎是一个成功的作家，有自毁倾向；罗宾有三个儿子，话痨，压力很大；达拉是担任着照顾年迈父母的重任，到现在还住在自己儿时的卧房。

Mr. Bailey has come to a stage in his life where everyone around him has long left him, including his wife. To help shelter him from the pain of reality, he has his dog whom he has a strong bond with. After yet another traumatic event, Mr. Bailey reaches a turning point where he realises that embracing death might be more realistic than fearing it.
