2004年的圣诞夜，某高级公寓内，野口贵弘（德井义实 饰）及其妻子奈央子（小西真奈美 饰）双双遇害，现场则有四个惊慌失措的年轻人：杉下希美（荣仓奈奈 饰）、成濑慎司（窪田正孝 饰）、安藤望（贺来贤人 饰）和西崎真人（小出惠介 饰）。最后西崎认罪，入狱服刑十年。曾经在濑户内海某小岛担任驻警的退休刑警高野茂（三浦友和 饰）对此案存有诸多疑问，当年出生在该小岛的希美和慎司曾卷入神秘的失火事件，上京后的希美与安藤是大学同学，两人又和西崎租住在同一公寓中。千丝万缕将四个年轻人以及野口夫妇联系在一起，每个人都有需要守护的“N”，他们用谎言编制了扑朔迷离的爱恨迷局……

在大学进行动物生态学研究的主人公都鸟博士（三上博史 饰），因为某种想法而参加了警视厅的中途采用考试，并顺利通过。于是，虽然已经43岁，却如愿进入了搜查一课成为了一名**。
一名正义感十足的28岁年轻**安永哲平（高桥光臣 饰）成为了他的搭档，都鸟便成为了史上最年长、最难搞的“后辈”。于是，这位运用论理性思考进行假设、然后通过实验进行缜密研究、最终锁定犯人的与众不同的“新人”，和这位耿直坦率的青年**，时而冲突争吵、时而互相帮助、最终让犯人原形毕露。

In the distant past, a great battle known as the "Universe War" erupted between all Super Sentai robots and a colossal "calamity." This war, later called the "Universal Great War," was brought to an end by a giant deity named Tega Sword. This transcendent being, imbued with the power of all Super Sentai, fell into slumber after sustaining injuries.

Hoeru Tono, a young man drifting between part-time jobs, finds himself fired once again. Around the same time, the mysterious organization "Bridan" begins attacking Earth to awaken Tega Sword. Suddenly, Hoeru is enveloped in a strange space where he encounters Tega Sword. He learns that gathering special "rings" will grant him any wish. Without a specific wish in mind, Hoeru resolves to aim for the "Number One" and fights as Gozyu Wolf against Bridan. What wish will Hoeru eventually discover? And who are the other ring warriors?

某公司丢失了一枚存有商业机密的SD卡片，一时间办公室内吵吵嚷嚷，而临时工隐馆厄介（冈田将生 饰）首当其冲受到怀疑。厄介人如其名，从小就遭遇了无数令人匪夷所思的厄运，甚至连陨石坠落这种小概率事件他也没能躲过，当然厄运也让他的学业和事业饱经挫折。为了证明清白，他通过神秘的侦探事务所管理人绊井法郎（及川光博 饰）联系到了奇怪的侦探掟上今日子（新垣结衣 饰）。今日子留着银色的头发，浑身上下记满笔记。她只接受当日预约，所有案件保证当天解决，更为奇怪的是据说她睡了一觉后记忆就会自动清零。在今日子的帮助下，厄介成功洗刷清白，而他对这个与众不同的女孩隐隐有了好感，当然他们的羁绊绝不会就此终结……
本片根据西尾维新的“忘却侦探系列”改编。

Dr Toma, a skilled surgeon, starts work at a regional hospital in Japan. After performing an operation to remove a patient’s liver cancer, something that normally would not be done at this hospital, he quickly gains a very good reputation amongst the town’s people. Some of his colleagues become so jealous they are resentful and waiting patiently for the perfect opportunity to crucify him. Soon they get their chance as Dr Toma considers performing a controversial operation…
