#FreeBSD users in the US, which mirror do you use for pkg? I am using the default pkg.FreeBSD.org and it is slow as hell. #Librewolf upgrade has been stuck at downloading for more than 60 minutes!

It's true on #Fediverse it seems that everyone is running some #unix stuff, be it #Linux or #BSD or even #plan9 and alike. In real life people see your screen and ask "hey you're running #MacOS or what?" and you say "oh no it's Linux " and 90% of time they are like "what?say that again??" 😂😂😂

After seeing the video from the GaryH Tech channel (@garyhtech) I tried #NetBSD on real hardware for the first time too. The installation really was not as intuitive to me as #OpenBSD and #FreeBSD , especially I was trying to install the system to a separate partition alongside FreeBSD on the same disk. But hey I finally did it after some googling!

I was just about to complain why #pkgin in #NetBSD about having long commands like install, search and list and no short form like install for #pkg in #FreeBSD and then pkgin without any argument slaps me in the face and say no you can just use in se ls for install search and list

Small but mighty news for UNIX fans:
GNU ed 1.22 is out! Now you can filter specific line ranges through shell commands directly in ed, ex(1)-style:

1,10!sort

Just like in ex or sed, this filters addressed lines through your favorite shell tools a great upgrade for scripting and editing workflows.

Even better: Today’s batch of Slackware -current updates already includes ed 1.22. If you’re running -current and up to date, you already have the new version!

They have assumed that all operating systems are like Microsoft Windows 11, Android, or iOS; and have written legislation for operating systems where people download glorified WWW client 'apps', from 'stores', which use 'accounts' that they have with vendors or Microsoft/Google/Apple.

But the legislation *as worded* *also* covers everything from #Debian and #Ubuntu through #Arch Linux and #MobaXTerm to #FreeBSD and #NetBSD and #OpenBSD; where users anonymously use package managers or ports systems to install applications, written by developers, on operating systems, from 'publicly available internet website' repositories.

There is no age field in the GECOS data in master.passwd(5) of course, and the reality is that no BSD or Linux-based operating system has this concept of apps/stores/accounts.
